Bringing Building and Environment into the AI Era

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming research and practice by integrating cutting-edge technologies, methodologies, approaches, and skills throughout the entire life cycle of buildings. This transformation explores the latest advancements, opportunities, challenges, and imperatives associated with AI-driven innovations in every aspect of the built environment. While AI is inherently artificial, AI-enhanced building technology must prioritize occupant-centric purposes. Fundamental discoveries driven by human curiosity remain indispensable, as the hallucinations or biases inherent in AI cannot be eliminated. It aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers by emphasizing the broader environmental and societal implications of integrating AI technologies into buildings and environments.
